This Week at the Boal Barn Playhouse

Thoroughly Modern Millie

Music by  Jeanine Tesori
Lyrics by  Dick Scanlan
Book by  Richard Morris and Dick Scanlan

July 8-11, July 14-18, July 21-25, 2009   at 8pm

This high-spirited romp is a zany new 1920’s musical that took Broadway by storm and has had audiences everywhere dancing the Charleston!  Taking place in New York City in 1922, Thoroughly Modern Millie tells the story of young Millie Dillmount, who has just moved to the city in search of a new life for herself.  Her grand plan is to find a job as a secretary for a wealthy man and then marry him.

Millie's plan, however, goes completely awry.  The owner of the dingy hotel where she lives kidnaps young girls to sell to the Far East slavery trade.  Her wealthy boss is slow in proposing marriage, despite her attempts.  And the man she actually falls in love with doesn’t have a dime to his name — or so he tells her.

It’s a New York full of intrigue and jazz — a time when women were entering the workforce and the rules of love and social behavior were changing forever.  Based on the popular movie, the stage version of Thoroughly Modern Millie includes a full score of new songs and bright dance numbers.

We've Moved!

State College Community Theatre's office has moved to the Calvary Baptist Church Building at 1250 University Drive.  This new location opens up opportunities that were not available to SCCT at our former location in Calder Square.  We have access to larger rooms for meetings, and we've been able to conduct auditions for the Spring and Summer Seasons at the church building.

SCCT is thrilled to take this step out of the congested downtown area.  Access to 1250 is easy; parking is free in the gravel lot; and, best of all, this place has windows!  We thank the people of Calvary for being incredibly welcoming and gracious.  Visit Calvary's Website
