* ABOUT THE PLAY* The plays of Anton Chekhov revolutionized the theatre scene in the late 19th and early 20th century, introducing early naturalism to the world. He mostly wrote on the common folks -the people left behind while others have been off seeing the world; these plays are among the greatest ever written, but are also known for being long and static. Thankfully, Chekhov’s legacy has allowed for other writers to have fun with his material, including Christopher Durang, who has created an homage to Chekhov, using some of his characters, tropes, and themes. Durang’s play is a comedy for our age and our time, the same way that Chekhov wrote for his. It is my hope that each of you seeing the show will find a bit of yourselves in all of the characters and their situations, and maybe you’ll find a way to do something about it, too. This has been a tremendous cast and crew to work with, and I only hope you have as much fun with this show as we have had working on it! Enjoy the show! PHILIP J VONADA DIRECTOR |
