* ABOUT THE MUSICAL *

The story of Jekyll & Hyde has seen numerous forms throughout hundreds of
years. Starting its journey as a Robert Louis Stevenson novella. The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, this story was originally based on the London lawyer investigating the strange situation surrounding his old friend, Dr. Henry Jekyll. Jekyll & Hyde quickly became tied to the rare mental condition often called “split personality” or Dissociative Identity Disorder. Throughout the next two hundred years it continued to influence many art forms, including iconic superhero characters such as ‘The Hulk’ and ‘Two-Face’.

The story was not set to music until the late 20th century, when it quickly found its stride and took off. Starting in Texas during its pre-Broadway performances, the show broke box office records, played to sold-out houses and won acclaim from critics, leading to the engagement being extended twice. In the late ’90’s, the musical premiered on Broadway and had a nearly four-year run becoming the then longest-running show in the history of the Plymouth Theatre.

As it is in every show I work on, it is my deepest hope that you, the audience
member, are able to escape within the story in front of you. This constantly
passionate piece is thrilling and sure to become one of your new favorites. So
many thanks to Jordan, Kat, Matt, Megan and Phil for all of their spectacular
professionalism and work on this project. And constant gratitude to the amazingly talented cast that I have had the greatest privilege to direct.
