*ABOUT THE PLAY*

A true American musical theatre classic in all its glory, and winner of the Tony Award for Best Musical in 1957, The Music Man embraces all that is good about America-the freedom of choice; the freedom to make mistakes; and the freedom of redemption.

Meredith Willson created a valentine to small town U.S.A. in this delightful tale about a prim librarian and a traveling salesman who learn that it is never too late to take a leap of faith. As we follow the story of the con man who tries to dupe the entire town of River City, Iowa and the lonely maiden who immediately sees through him, we are met along the way by colorful townspeople–the blustering mayor and his fastidious wife; the bickering School Board members (who accidentally fall upon barbershop harmony); a warm-hearted mother who worries that her daughter will blow her “very last chance” to land a husband; an assembly of gossiping ladies; the mayor’s oldest daughter who is in love with the boy from the wrong side of town; and of course, a bad guy…sort of.

But never fear, everything comes out fine in the end. Love conquers all, naturally! So, sit back, relax and enjoy The Music Man.
