You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown
2005

Thank you for coming to see tonight’s performance of You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown.

I have been asked why I wanted to direct this particular show. Was It because It was one of my all-time favorite musicals? No. In fact, I actually had never seen the show before commencing work on this production. Was it, therefore, because I felt the show dealt with major overarching themes that were pertinent to the current state of the world? Not really. The reason I decided to do this show was because – like most of you, I Imagine – grew up with the Peanuts cartoons and comics, and hold a special affection for these characters. And as the rather uncertain future that is life after Penn State looms ever closer, I relished the opportunity to reacquaint myself with one of my favorite aspects of childhood.

This production marks the completion of a personal journey, one which began eight years ago when I first caught the “theatre bug” In high school. Being able to say that I have grown since then to the point where I was able to direct a full mainstage musical fills me with a sense of accomplishment that I don’t believe I have ever felt before and makes me feel confident that I really can go out and succeed In the “real world.” For this, I would like to thank the directors who have Inspired me: Tom Schaller, Sharon Schaller, and Tina Lepidi-Stewart.

You may not be aware, but we had only three weeks to put this show together. I could not be more proud of all the talent, dedication, and hard work displayed by everyone Involved In making this product/on possible. So, once again, thank you all for coming. I sincerely hope you enjoy the show.

Respectfully yours,
Alexander Bochicchio
