About the Show

In case you Hadn’t made the association between the authors of the book CHEAPER BY THE DOZEN amd Ernestine and Frank Gilbreth, two of the children on stage tonight … this fresh, family-style comedy is founded on a fact. the humor is genuine, and delightful … and because the situation is a real one, it has meaning and importance

With the proven reputation of CHEAPER BY THE DOZEN for pleasing audiences both young and old, my job becomes exceptionally simple here, once the casting is completed. As I mentioned once before, during casting, it was certainly difficult to choose just nine young people for the roles of the Gilbreth children, but once that job was done, the rest was a “natural.”

The history of CHEAPER BY THE DOZEN suggests its immense popularity in many forms. As a novel it was a best seller, was condensed, serialized, and chosen by well-known book clubs. Later it became an outstanding motion picture, and has been called “the perfect play for amateurs.”

With the lively antics of the children, and the hilarious situations that evolve, we are hopeful that this evening of theatre will prove to be a delightful one for you and your family.
